City Pool Stranger Encounter

August 2, 2011

Excuse me…  (tap, tap)

EXCUSE ME…

Could you please take me to my mom?

I can’t swim.

Where is your mom?

She’s sitting over there (on the other side of the pool, back by the fence).

I’m scared of the water.  Could you carry me please?

Could you walk in the more shallower part?

She’s over there, with the big bag.

I’m ok now.  Thank you.   Bye.

Noel:  Whenever I make something, Susie always wants to copy me!

That’s good, because you have really good ideas.

Noel pauses.

I know where the ideas come from… (smiles and pats head)

Spaces Between Words

K is writing and forgets to put “finger spaces” between her words.   Upon remembering, she places her finger between two letters and exclaims:

Good thing my fingers are small so it can fit between the words!

E comments to S:

You’re gross, but you know how to read.

S looks puzzled.

E explains:

I mean, you’re good at reading, but sometime you pick your nose and eat it.

Options

An hour to fill. What to choose? So many choices, but no one is saying what to do.

Ahhh, playtime is finished already?!?!

It’s been 80 minutes.

Role/name Confusion

May 30, 2011

My daughter visited my classroom today.

Mom, do you have any toothpicks?

L. looks questioningly,

Teacher M, why is she calling you Mom?”

All my anecdotes throughout the year plus the actual introduction weren’t enough to make it sink in…
There’s no way I can be both teacher and mother in my students’ eyes.

Playground Confession

May 26, 2011

As he reached the end of a long story, he took a deep breath and sighed,

Sometimes I talk too much that I can’t breathe!
